7 TikTok makeup trends that you have to try
Eager to try out TikTok's most popular makeup looks? Here's how to achieve them - and the products that you may need to do it.
TikTok is a huge marketplace for trends in makeup and hair nowadays. "TikTok beauty trends are impossible to avoid," says Brian Duprey, a professional makeup artist based in New York City who often works with celebrity clients. "Despite not having an account myself, I see TikTok trends all over Instagram - and later, on the models and creatives I work with."
At last count, the #makeup tag alone has more than 445 billion views. And one survey found that 89% of TikTok users had purchased beauty products after seeing them on the platform.

The no-makeup makeup look
After a few years of heavy brows and contour makeup, it makes sense that the pendulum has swung the other way. No-makeup makeup looks have racked up hundreds of millions of views on TikTok.
The key to achieving the look is “skin care, skin care, skin care,” according to Meagan Coyle. Coyle is a New York based makeup artist who primarily works on feature films and television shows.
She recommends starting with the CareVe - Limpiador facial con espuma and then moisturizing with the CeraVe AM Face Moisturizer with SPF 30. Coyle likes the brand because it's scent free. "If you don't actually need a coconut smell, why are you putting that on your face?" she asks.
If you want added protection from the sun — the American Academy of Dermatology recommends a protector solar with at least SPF 30 — Kathryn Ewaldsen Mercer, a makeup artist based in Savannah, Georgia, recommends CeraVe Mineral Hydrating Sunscreen. She likes that it makes her skin glow because it has ácido hialurónico in the formula — a substance that can help keep moisture in the skin.
Another important no-makeup rule is avoiding heavy foundation. Instead, use a corrector o hidratante con color such as the Neutrogena Radiant Tinted Moisturizer to cover up problem areas or redness. It works in the summer months, too, because it provides a glow that makes it look like you’ve gotten some sun. “Cold girl makeup is the same aesthetic as a sun-kissed look,” Duprey says.
The key to this look, Duprey notes, is a cream blush, like the e.l.f. Luminous Putty Blush. “Cream blush will give your skin more of a glow than powder,” he says.
The placement of the rubor is important, he adds. Once you've hydrated your skin and added contouring, apply blush on the inside of your cheek (as opposed to the apple of your cheek). With one continuous motion, sweep the brush over the tip of your nose.
"It may take a few practices to get the look right," he says. A good tip is to imagine you are making a "w" over your face that starts at your cheekbone and swoops over your nose. Carefully blend the color together using a sponge.
Duprey also recommends dabbing your favorite face oil across your cheeks for extra glow. For shimmer, apply a highlighter, like NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator, across the nose and in the corner of eyelids — a glittery eyeshadow works equally well, Duprey notes. The siren eyes makeup look
This one harkens back to a classic look favored by 1960s screen starlets. In recent months it's been spotted all over the red carpet. As a trend, siren eyes have gotten over 7.1 billion views on TikTok.
Siren eyes combine a winged delineador de ojos with a smokey eye. The key, notes Coyle, is a delicate finesse with the delineador de ojos. A great tool to achieve this look is a felt tip eyeliner such as NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink, which won’t break down when combined with skin oils, Coyle notes.
Start with a matte brown eyeshadow across your upper eyelid. Drag it with a small blending brush to extend it slightly beyond the corner of your eye, with a slight upwards curve.
Next, take your eyeliner and follow the line you created. You don't need to make one continuous line, notes Coyle. Instead, stamp the line in increments along your lash line, following the shadow. That creates a swept-up line that "wings out" of the corner of your eye.
To follow the natural contour of your face, notes Coyle, apply the eyeliner with your eyes open while looking in the mirror. "I'm stronger when applying eyeliner to my right eye, so I always start with my left one because it's easier for me to match it," she adds. Blend it all together with a soft, fluffy brush. And if you make a mistake, remove the liner with a cotton swab dabbed in moisturizer rather than makeup remover. The latter, Coyle notes, will repel future applications.
If you’re really feeling yourself, try adding some fake lashes. Coyle loves the Ardell Lash Trios con Duo Lash Gel. Her favorite method of application is dotting the lash gel along the lash line, waiting for the glue to get tacky, and then applying the lashes with tweezers, one by one.
The white eyeliner makeup look
Yes, the 1990s are back. That means white eyeliner is trending once more. The application is simple. After applying sombra de ojos, trace the waterline of your eyes - the skin between the lashes and the eye - with a white pencil. Coyle notes that if your eyes have a tendency towards redness - for example, if it's allergy season - or if you find the look to be a bit cartoonish, you can try a beige or skin-colored eyeliner. It creates a similar, but less stark, effect.
The glowy, dewy makeup look
With more than 252 million views on TikTok, the glowy, dewy makeup look is all about looking like you've just wandered in from a meadow. The presence of nature has magically infused your skin with a natural glow.
Even if you live in the city and you haven't seen a meadow in eons, the look is easy to achieve. After prepping and hydrating your skin with moisturizer and primer, create a base with a medium-coverage foundation infused with shimmer, such as NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow! Radiant Foundation.
Add even more glow with a bronzer, such as L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Bronze It Bronzer applied to spots where the sun might kiss your face — the tip of your nose, forehead and the tops of your cheekbones.

After building up a healthy flush, take a highlighter across your T-zone and underneath your eyelids to really add depth to your face. The heavy blush makeup look
This is like the cold girl look, only taken up a notch. The heavy blush look has more than 64 million views on TikTok and is inspired by subcultures such as Y2K fashion, Hello Kitty and goth. It involves heavy blush used not only on the cheeks but also all over the face for an exaggerated flush.
To avoid looking neon in fluorescent lights, Duprey recommends applying a neutral contour shading as a base. If you have fair skin, he notes that you should avoid warm tones and stick with cool, taupe shades to dampen the color.
Then, apply a cream blush on the tops of your cheekbones and even over your temple. To further match the trend, go for shades of bright pink or coral. Great options include e.l.f. Putty Blush in Bora Bora or Turks and Caicos. Blend the blush on top of the cheekbones with the contouring beneath to create a smooth but vibrant finish.
The coquettish makeup look
Of all the looks, the coquettish makeup look is the one that Duprey finds the most universally flattering. "I like the glow on the eye. And the lip is pretty," he says.
The term "coquette" has roots in the 17th century, when it was coined to describe a girlish flirt. The makeup look is hyper feminine, which is in line with other current "girly" trends, like Barbiecore.
Start with a bright base, using a product like Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth - Base. Add shimmery highlights in the corners of your eyes and along your T-zone with something like e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter.
Pay special attention to your eyes, which should look soft but clearly defined. Apply shimmery brown eyeshadow at the upper and lower lash lines using a small angled brush. Duprey notes that if you start the line in the center of your eyelid and pull the liner out from the corner like a wing, your eyes will look bigger.
Finish by carefully curling your eyelashes and then topping them with a curling mascara such as the Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Curl Bounce Washable Mascara. “Make sure you have a strict no-lash-left-behind policy,” Duprey recommends.
As is the case with so many TikTok trends, blush is central to the look. Duprey recommends applying a pretty pink cream shade to the hollows of your cheekbones, and then deepening the color with a powder blush such as L’Oreal Paris’ True Match Super-Blendable Blush. Finish the look with Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor in Keep Blushing, and make your lips extra kissable with a coat of gloss.
Unlike some of the other trends, coquette is an all-around look - think big bows, cottage-core dresses, soft skin and manicured nails.
