The first step in dying your hair silver is to bleach your hair. If you already have light color hair, this step should be easier, and bleaching it once should be enough. For darker hair, you may have to bleach it multiple times. It is important to get your hair as light as possible in order to ensure a more even tone. Next you should apply toner in order to remove any yellow undertones left from after the bleaching. Toner should be left in for about 20 minutes. Next, before you add the dye, rub some petroleum jelly along your hairline. This will help to protect your skin from being stained by the dye. Finally, apply the dye as directed by the instructions on the package. It may be helpful to separate your hair into sections using clips. Once the dye is fully applied, use a disposable shower cap to cover your hair and wait for the dye to fully be absorbed by your hair. After the recommended time, be sure to wash your hair thoroughly to remove any excess hair dye. In order to preserve the hair color, it is recommended you use a shamooo and conditioner that are color safe, with ingredients that are good for maintaining hair care after it has been dyed.

To remove hair dye, create a mixture of shampoo, dish soap, and vitamin c powder. Combine this mixture in a bowl. Next, make sure your hair is wet and then apply the mixture. Cover your hair in a disposable shower cap for 30 minutes to allow the mixture to draw out the hair dye. Then, scrub and rinse off in a hot shower. You may need to apply the mixture multiple times in order to remove all of the dye. When the dye is completely removed, your hair may be more dry and brittle than usual. Be sure to use a good moisturizing shampoo to rehydrate your locks.

If you have an extremely light color hair already, bleaching may not be necessary. However, to be sure that it is light enough, it never hurts to bleach it first. The lighter your hair is when applying the dye, the better the coverage will be.

Hair dye in general does not contain bleach, and the same goes for silver hair dye. Instead, it contains pigments that penetrate the hair and change its color. However, bleaching should be done before applying the hair dye so that the pigments can easily overcome the lighter color that it is bonding to and stick lke permanent hair color. If you're not sure about the color you want to dye your hair, try a semi permanent color rather than permanent hair color and use a toner to keep your hair looking refreshed.
