I bought 2 of item #980743 to use when I hike. I'm 89 years old and, after surviving cancer 10 years ago, my balance is not good. These canes provide excellent balance, are light-weight (about 50% of the solid wood ones) and easy to grip. They are superior to trail buddies which are very light but have a central cable that twists as you walk, and, after a couple of months of hiking, simply break. There is one problem. The aluminum is open-ended at the bottom where it contacts the tip. After less than 4 miles of moderately strenuous hiking, the open end ground completely through the tip, making it totally useless. For just a couple of pennies, CVS could have included a metal ring inside the tip to prevent this erosion. The solution is to buy a pair of supregear tips ($9 a pair on Amazon) which contain just such a ring.
