Not What I Expected
I bought this to use on a scar I received from surgery to repair a broken arm and wrist. I thought it would be more creamy but this product is more like a sticky gel. So far, I have not been impressed with the product and haven't seen an improvement with the way my surgical incision looks.

I use this product for my knee scars.
I love this product. Had two total knee replacements. I use this product all the time. My mother used similar product for her scars.

Reviewed 4 years agoI never write online reviews, but I'm so pleased with this product that I just have to! About 2 months after having my nose pierced, I started to develop a small hypertrophic scar that was raised and slightly red around the piercing opening -- this is pretty common with nostril piercings. I tried several of the remedies I read about online -- salt water soaks, tea tree oil, vitamin E oil -- with no change. Then I remembered that my sister had used a scar gel on a burn scar with good results, so I went to CVS and picked this up. I have only been using the scar gel for a week (4 applications a day, according to the directions), but there is a dramatic difference in the scar already!! It is no longer red at all and is barely raised now! I am very impressed with how quickly this started working since the box says it can take 2-6 months to really help. I will continue to use the gel for 8 weeks since that's what is recommended in the directions and I don't want the scar to reoccur. Highly recommend for hypertrophic scars related to cartilage piercings!

I've always had very clear and fair skin but for a couple of months I was consistently breaking out on my right cheek and because of my complexion, the scars/hyperpigmentation really stood out and made me self conscious. I tried some more expensive products like D Scar by Kate Somerville and didn't see much of a difference. So I went for a facial and asked the aesthetician what products I could use to help the marks fade faster (fully expecting her to recommend something expensive like a hydroquinone cream) She just said "Mederma! It's amazing" Well I went to CVS and decided to roll the dice with the store brand since it was cheaper. That was four days ago and I already see a DRAMATIC difference in my marks. The newer ones are starting to fade away and even the old dark scars have started to lighten to a pink color. The texture of that part of my skin is already a lot softer. And, as far as I can tell, it's not making me break out. They say it takes four weeks to see results but mine came almost immediately! Definitely worth the money and I would highly recommend this product.

This product works well, but in comparison to Mederma it's a little bit more of a hassle, because you have to apply it more than once a day. Overall it does help with the appearance of scars. I've only had it for a few days, so we'll see how it goes.
