Sodium chloride hypertonicity ophthalmic ointment is used for the eyes only. It helps reduce the swelling of the front surface of your eye known as the cornea. This swelling can be caused by surgery, infection, trauma, or other eye conditions. This medicine should only be used after talking to a doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions or allergies. If your condition does not improve within 72 hours you should call your doctor. Common side effects of using this ointment include a mild burning sensation or irritation of the eyes. If you have signs of allergic reactions such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat please get emergency help right away. If you happen to put too much in your eye, it is not expected to be a concern for your eye - simply wipe away the excess. CVS's brand of Sodium Chloride Hypertonicity Ophthalmic Ointment is comparable to the active ingredient in Muro 128. - Lessens eye discomfort or swelling due to corneal edema
- Helps draw water out of the swollen cornea
- To apply the ointment: Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket
- Squeeze a ribbon of the ointment from the tube into this pocket
- Blink your eye gently
- Keep it closed for 1-2 minutes
- Make sure to wipe excess ointment from the eye area with a clean tissue
