What are the Best FSA Eligible Allergy Medicine Brands?

Is Flonase® FSA Eligible?

Yes, you can use your FSA (flexible spending account) to purchase Flonase® Nasal Spray. The CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act removed the requirement for a physician's prescription for many over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Under current guidelines, products that help prevent or treat allergy symptoms are FSA, HSA (Health Savings Account), and HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) eligible. These changes make it easier for plan participants to use funds set aside for medical expenses.

Flonase Nasal Spray is made to provide up to 24-hour relief from allergy symptoms, including sinus and nasal congestion, runny nose, and watery eyes. The advanced spray technology helps block 6 common allergens. Flonase® is formulated for adults and children 12 years and older. Do not use Flonase® if you have a nasal injury or asthma symptoms. For complete instructions and dosage recommendations, consult the enclosed Quick Start Guide.

Is Claritin FSA Eligible?

Like Flonase®, Claritin Non-Drowsy Allergy Relief Tablets are FSA eligible. Under the terms of the (new) CARES Act, you can use your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) for allergy medications. The cost of your Claritin could also be covered through a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). You can also use FSA, HSA, or HRA funds for many acne medications, flu treatments, and non-prescription pain relievers.

Non-drowsy Claritin® tablets are made for adults and children 6 years and older. Each tablet delivers 10mg of loratadine, an antihistamine shown to provide 24-hr relief of itchy eyes, nose, and throat, sneezing, and runny nose. Based on information provided by the manufacturer, physicians generally recommend taking Claritin at the first sign of symptoms. Treatment may continue as long as needed. Usage recommendations (and warnings) are printed on the back of the box.
