Alka Seltzer Antacid

Alka-Seltzer Original is an aspirin-based painkiller and antacid combination that helps treat headaches, stomachaches, heartburn, indigestion and many other mild conditions. The brand's other heartburn products, such as Alka-Seltzer Extra-Strength, feature an antacid-only formula to target the pain of heartburn or reflux directly. These products neutralize excess stomach acid on contact, relieving the symptoms it can cause in just a few minutes to leave your stomach and throat feeling more comfortable.

Alka-Seltzer antacids, such as the brand's Lemon-Lime heartburn relief effervescent tablets o Extra-Strength Heartburn ReliefChews, contain mineral ingredients, such as sodium bicarbonate or calcium carbonate. These minerals have a high pH, so when they come in contact with an acidic substance, such as the hydrochloric acid within your stomach, they neutralize some of the acidity. 

Alka-Seltzer fast-relief antacids help ease the burning sensation you might experience if your stomach contents are too acidic or the sphincter between your stomach and your esophagus isn't closing properly to stop stomach acid from traveling up to your throat. This may happen if you lie down too soon after eating a large meal or if you drink or smoke heavily.
