The Cough Syrup that Couldn't! Oh, what a tale I have to tell, Of a syrup that said it would make you well. It came in a bottle, all shiny and bright, Promising to banish that cough in the night. With a slurp and a gulp, my child gave a try, But the cough, it just chuckled and continued to fly! The taste was so yucky, it made faces go red, Like a sneaky old sneaker, or bad broccoli spread. “This’ll fix it,” I thought, “This syrup will do!” But instead, all it did was make things askew. The cough stayed right there, not a bit did it care, It danced on my kid, like it hadn’t a care! It bounced and it jiggled, it wouldn’t let go, The syrup just watched, like a bystander at a show. It didn’t fight back, didn’t even try, Just slid down the throat with a pitiful sigh. So if you’ve got a cough that you want to shoo, This syrup, my friends, won’t do it for you. It’s as helpful as sneezing into a shoe, And as tasty as socks in a stinky old stew! In the end, you’ll be left with that cough still in tow, And a bottle of syrup with nowhere to go.
