Pedicure Kit

All day, every day your feet support you through every move you make. Especially after a long, cold, dry winter, it is important to give those poor appendages a rest and treat them to a nice pedicure. The only issue is that you don't have the time or money to spend on a salon pedicure. While it would be nice to be pampered and have someone else take care of you, with the pedicure kits available on the market today, you can give yourself a salon-worthy pedicure at a fraction of the price and in the convenience of your own home.

Essential Pedicure Supplies

There are several items that you should look for in a good pedicure kit in order to give your feet the attention they deserve. You will want a kit that has nail clippers, nail file, cuticle pusher, cuticle nipper, foot brush and stone, pedicure file, toe separators and a buffer. Outside of the kit, you will need nail polish remover, if your toenails are currently painted, as well as nail polish plus a top coat to seal it in for long-lasting color.

At Home Pedicure

First, remove any old polish that remains on your nails; then, soak your feet in a tub of warm water. You can add distilled white vinegar (to cleanse and tone), tea tree oil (to banish bacteria) or a few Epsom salts (to help with achy feet), if you want a more spa-like experience.

After soaking your feet for about 15 minutes, you are ready to begin. First, shape your nails with your toenail clippers, nail file, nail nipper and buffer. To start, take your toenail clippers and cut straight across. Cutting nails into a curved shape invites them to grow into the sides of your toe, causing an ingrown toenail and spreading pain. Don't try to clip each toenail in one shot, you should make a few small cuts across your nail to finish the job. After clipping, you can use a nail file or emery board to smooth out the cut. File in one direction across the top of your nail until it is smooth; don't go back and forth.

You then need to buff your feet and attack the dead skin. Use a scrub to get rid of all the dead skin and callouses. Now it's time to moisturize your feet, locking in moisture and invigorating the new skin that is going to grow. After that is done, prep your nails with a cuticle pusher or cutter and get to painting! Show off those stylish toes for the rest of your summer.
