FSA Eye Drops
Flexible spending accounts, or FSAs, reimburse covered members for the out-of-pocket costs incurred when they purchase eligible over-the-counter medications and health products, including FSA eye drops. This gives FSA members a tax advantage to help deflect the costs of common health-related items that aren't covered by health insurance.
Are Eye Drops Covered by FSA?
Eye drops can be helpful for relieving irritation, itchiness, tiredness, redness and stinging. Some eye drops may also help with blurry vision or other specific problems. Over-the-counter, or OTC, eye drops are covered by your FSA. FSA-eligible lubricant eye drops are generally also covered under limited-purpose FSAs, health savings accounts, or HSAs, and health reimbursement arrangements, or HRAs. Most eye drops (and other eye care products) are reimbursable under an HSA, including eye drops for alleviating symptoms of allergies and for adding lubrication to the eyes when you wear contact lenses with products such as artificial tears.
Do I Need a Prescription for FSA Eye Drops?
Under the CARES Relief Act, a prescription for eye care products, such as FSA eye drops and lubricants, isn't necessary for reimbursement under your FSA. This means that you can use your pretax health care budget to buy the eye drops of your choice.
Not all FSAs allow you to carry over your FSA benefits from year to year, so it’s important to use your benefits during the plan year. Ask your employer for details, and shop a wide array of FSA-eligible personal care products at CVS.
