Certain formulas are better for people who wear contact lenses or who have sensitive skin or eyes, which is why it's a good idea to look for products that say they're dermatologist and ophthalmologist-tested before you choose an eyeliner to purchase. Once you find an approved product, select the color you like, apply it to a test area of your skin and wait 24 hours. If no adverse reaction occurs, the eyeliner should be suitable for you to use.

Not all eyeliners need to be sharpened, but if you have an eyeliner pencil, you can sharpen it with an eyeliner pencil sharpener. Twist-up or automatic eyeliner may have a sharpener in the butt of the pencil. If so, pull the sharpener out of the pencil, use it by twisting it gently around the tip of the pencil and then return it to the pencil casing for easy storage.
