What are the Best FSA Eligible Beauty Products Brands?
FSA Beauty Products to Add to Your Routine
If you have a flexible spending account, your plan may cover essential FSA beauty products. These include certain skin care, hair care and bath products treating a medical condition or offering a health benefit.
Travel-Size FSA Beauty Products
Don't forget that FSA beauty products come in all different sizes. You can purchase convenient travel-sized sunscreen, lotions, cleansers, acne spot treatments and lip balms through an FSA account. Pack these items in your suitcase for your next trip, or carry them in your bag when you're on the go.
Are Skin Care Products FSA-Eligible?
As a general rule, products intended for daily, routine use don't qualify for an FSA. However, you may be reimbursed for skin care products that benefit your health or treat a skin condition.
Examples of FSA skin care products include:
Medicated lip balms that soothe and protect dry, chapped lips
Sunscreen that protects your face and body from harmful UV rays, including tinted sunscreens and products formulated for babies and children
Products that treat or control acne, such as spot treatments, topical gels, facial cleansers, moisturizers and face wash pads
Creams that control eczema and dermatitis, including hydrocortisone creams for relief from itching and healing ointments to help protect chapped or chafed skin
Is Face Moisturizer Covered by an FSA?
Face moisturizers aren't covered by an FSA unless they're meant to help a medical condition. Moisturizers containing salicylic acid to treat acne, for example, may qualify.
Keep in mind that the product must be specifically formulated to alleviate a condition. Even the best beauty products for your eczema aren't eligible unless manufactured for that purpose.
Can You Buy Makeup With an FSA?
Makeup such as mascara and eyeshadow aren't FSA eligible, as they're considered cosmetics. However, some brands such as Neutrogena sell specially formulated beauty products that may be covered by an FSA, such as pressed powders containing acne medicine.
