What are the Best Swimming Ear Plugs Brands?

Can you hear with swimming earplugs in?

You should be able to hear perfectly fine with swimming earplugs in. Some earplugs are specifically designed to block out noise, such as earplugs for use in construction or industrial environments. These types of earplugs are not designed to protect you from swimmer's ear, and they're typically not made of the right material for use in the water. A quality pair of swimming earplugs will block a small amount of sound, but you should still be able to hear voices and general noises around you with them in.

Can I use normal earplugs for swimming?

Using normal earplugs for swimming is not recommended. These earplugs are usually made of foam or another material that is not designed for the water. Additionally, this type of earplug won't seal the water out to prevent it from getting into the ear canal. Always look for earplugs that are specifically designed for swimming if you plan to use them in the water. If you use normal earplugs while swimming, it can actually cause more damage to your ears. Swimming ear plugs are recommended because they prevent water from flooding into your ear canal, are made of a comfortable soft silicone that does not place too much pressure within the ear, and can prevent ear infections from occurring if too much water floods into the ear, and lastly, are waterproof. Always choose comfortable swimmer's earplugs made of soft, pliable silicone material, or another type of soft plastic that will protect your ears and keep them dry.

How to wear swimming earplugs

Swimming earplugs are made to fit snugly inside the ear canal. Some are offered in a one-size fits-all design, being placed into the outer ear for the best waterproof ear protection to keep water out, whereas others may be suited for different age groups and have a more custom fit. Once you choose the right pair of swimming earplugs, start by making sure that your ears and clean and dry. Remove the earplugs from the package, and gently tug down on your earlobe. This will open the ear canal and make it easier to insert the plugs. Gently push the earplug into the ear canal slowly until you feel a slight seal, then release your earlobe. Make sure you insert the earplug into the correct ear since some are made specifically for the left and right ears.

Do babies need earplugs for swimming?

Earplugs aren't necessary for babies while they swim. Since babies won't be going completely underwater, their risk of getting swimmer's ear or an ear infection is lower than kids who do swim underwater. However, if your baby already has tubes in their ears, then earplugs offer another layer of protection. Otherwise, babies do not need to wear earplugs for swimming.
