Types of Dusters and How They Work:

Conquering household dust without the use of harsh chemicals is easy when you have the right tools, and dusters can come in every shape and size to help you on your mission to rid every room of that pesky film. Feather dusters, synthetic fiber dusters, and electrostatic dusters all work, but in different ways, and can be helpful when a wet cloth is too time consuming or not effective enough in sneaking into tiny corners. While some dusters are useful in getting to those hard-to-reach corners, they can often just move dust around without actually removing it. New and improved dusting tools attached to lengthy wands and poles are available at your local CVS and online to bring your dusting game up a level, and when you compare them to older styles, you can see why:

• Feather dusters: the original tool in dusting and can gently rid delicate china of dust

• Synthetic dusters: fine filaments carefully move dust off of hard surfaces, and are a great alternative to those with feather allergies on top of dust allergies.

• Electrostatic, or AntiStatic dusters: a 'charged' duster that uses static to pull dust off surfaces and trap it in its fibers. Modern dusting cloths and wands use this technology to not only move dust around, but remove it from your surfaces and space.

• Compressed gas dusters: keyboards and other electronics with tiny crevices can benefit from a hard burst of air to remove clogging dust inside.

Do Feather Dusters Work?

Not all feather dusters are created equal, and it is important to investigate the origin of the feathers used in this house-cleaning tool. Some models use chicken feathers, which are not quite long or fluffy enough to effectively grab onto dust particles. The original ostrich feather application has longer fibers to latch onto dust in the home, though it still stands second to newer dusting models that attach and lock onto allergens of every size, from dust mite matter to pet dander.
