Sip Caffeine-Free Soda When You're Craving a Bubbly Beverage

When thirst strikes, reach for a bottle of caffeine-free soda, and enjoy a sweet treat. Stock up on caffeine-free beverages for your family, from carbonated classics, such as lemon-lime soda and sparkling water, to kid-friendly favorites, including juice and milk.

What are the Best Caffeine Free Soda Brands?

Which Sodas Are Caffeine-Free?

Tempt your taste buds with a variety of caffeine-free sodas, including diet caffeine-free soda, such as stomach-soothing ginger ale. Find familiar brands with no caffeine at CVS, from Coca-Cola and Dr. Becker to Canada Dry. Many citrus-flavored sodas, such as Sprite and 7-UP, are made without caffeine. Darker sodas, including cola and root beer, may contain caffeine, so check the label carefully. Many brands offer caffeine-free versions of popular flavors. Caffeine-free Coke is one example.

Sometimes people search for caffeine-free soda when they actually want sparkling agua, seltzers or tonic drinks. You can also find a wide assortment of caffeine-free sports drinks and fruit juices, but watch out for energy drinks. Many energy drinks contain caffeine or other stimulants.

How Do They Make Caffeine-Free Soda?

Some sodas, including lemon-lime flavors or orange soda, are typically already caffeine-free. Other drinks, such as cola made from kola nuts, must go through a caffeine-removal process before getting dubbed a caffeine-free drink. Companies use different methods when removing caffeine from soda or , such as:

  • Water processing

  • Methylene chloride extraction

  • Carbon dioxide decaffeination

Every company is different. If you have questions about how a brand handles caffeine removal, reach out to the soda company for more details.

Does Caffeine-Free Soda Have Caffeine?

Companies must disclose when their beverages contain caffeine, so check the nutrition facts and ingredients for clues that a soda contains caffeine. If you don't see caffeine mentioned on the label, your beverage is likely caffeine-free.

As you look for the best caffeine-free soda or other drinks without caffeine, look for terms such as decaf and decaffeinated. A decaf drink isn't the same as a drink that contains no caffeine. For example, decaffeinated coffee generally has approximately 97% of its caffeine removed, which means you may still ingest 5mg of caffeine from a 12 OZ cup of decaf. If you're limiting caffeine intake but still want to drink café, consider trying decaf made using a Swiss water process. This process removes 99.9% of the caffeine. You may also enjoy herbal teas made without caffeine.
