Clear Bandages
Clear Bandages
Bandages can play an important role in the healing process by protecting wounds from friction and microbes; however, some people are hesitant to apply bandages due to concerns about their appearance. Clear bandages provide a solution for those who feel self-conscious wearing traditional products and come in a wide range of types to suit many wound care needs.
Clear Adhesive Bandages
Clear adhesive bandages are an ideal solution for many minor cuts, abrasions, burns and lacerations. These bandages consist of an absorbent gauze pad attached to transparent film. On the back of the film is adhesive, a sticky substance that holds the bandage in place on your skin. Adhesive options are easy to apply and offered in many sizes and shapes. For best results, choose clear adhesive bandages that are large enough to completely cover the affected area.
Clear Hydrocolloid Bandages
Some wounds require more than just an adhesive bandage. Hydrocolloid options may be recommended for deep, seeping and infected wounds. A clear hydrocolloid bandage contains ingredients that form a gel when applied to the skin. The gel keeps wounds moist to support healing, absorbs drainage and helps to remove damaged tissue and debris from wounds. Plus, clear hydrocolloid bandages are thicker and offer more insulation for healing skin. Most clear hydrocolloid bandages are self-adhesive, but some need to be held in place with clear first aid tape.
Waterproof Clear Bandages
If you swim frequently or don't want to change your bandages when it comes time to bathe, waterproof clear bandages could be ideal for your needs. Waterproof bandages are similar to conventional peel-and-stick bandages except their adhesive is not easily dissolved by water. As a result, the bandages will not come off in a swimming pool, the bathtub or a shower. Health care providers sometimes recommend waterproof bandages for patients with wounds that should not come in contact with water.
Antibacterial Clear Bandages
For wounds at risk for infection, clear antibacterial bandages are available. The sterile gauze pads on these bandages contain antibacterial ingredients that fight the growth of bacteria. Like conventional adhesive bandages, antibacterial options have a peel-and-stick design for easy application. If you're unsure which type of clear bandage is right for you, a medical professional can provide you with advice.
