How To Use A Pencil Sharpener
You're writing down vital information with clear, crisp lines, when suddenly your pencil lead snaps and you are without a working writing implement. Thankfully you have your trusty pencil sharpener at hand, a plethora of which are available at CVS, and you can renew your sharp pencil lead length quickly and easily in a few simple moves:
• Place your broken or dulled pencil tip into the pencil sharpener hole
• Twist your pencil in a clock-like circle, gently wedging the tip against the blade
• Continue to rotate your pencil with mild force for the blade to effectively shave your pencil's tip into a sharp point
How To Fix A Jammed Pencil Sharpener
You can unjam a frustratingly frozen manual pencil sharpener easily with the help of the noble toothpick. Simply wedge one end of the toothpick in against the jammed pencil lead, which will often pop out easily from the end of the toothpick alone, or you may try 'sharpening' the pick, effectively loosening both the pencil lead and releasing the toothpick.
How To Clean A Pencil Sharpener Blade
For a clean and sharp blade to do its work efficiently, it needs to be clean. To give your pencil sharpener a new lease on life, a simple cleaning of it with tissue and a bit of alcohol can also give your pencils a sharper edge. Place a piece of tissue over the end of your pencil and put it inside your pencil sharpener as if setting up to sharpen it. Turn the pencil counter-clockwise (in the opposite direction of the blade's edge to prevent tearing the tissue) and the alcohol will gently remove any build-up that may have gathered inside your sharpener. An old toothbrush can also scrub out any tough or stickier excess in your sharpener.
