I'm only disappointed because I didn't realize this file doesn't have a smoother finishing side, it only does rough filing which gets the job done if you go very lightly. It also has a pointed tip which works well to clean the underside of nail tips and gently around the cutical. I'm not sure if the rubber part was supposed to come off but it did come off when I took it out of the package. It was easy to put back together though and hasn't came apart since then. It files very efficiently and quickly. I don't have to make extra effort to file my nails. This has become my best nail file. I own a few others that don't file as great as this one and they're from really good brands.
