Clotrimazole Cream

If you are dealing with pie de atleta, ringworm, jock itch, or a vaginal yeast infection, clotrimazole can offer you relief. You can find this ingredient in many treatments from sprays and creams to powders used to treat fungal infections. Before you select a product that contains clotrimazole, it's important to understand how to use it correctly so you can get quick relief from burning, itching, and pain.

How To Use Clotrimazole Cream

Every product that contains clotrimazole is different and may have different strengths. Always read the instructions provided to you so you can be sure you're applying it the correct way. In many cases, you should not use this clotrimazole cream for more than seven to 10 consecutive days. If you have athlete's foot, make sure to apply the clotrimazole in between the toe areas where the fungal infection is usually most severe. This product is not intended for use on the scalp or fingernails. Always use it externally only and wash your hands after application to avoid getting it into your eyes.

Precautions When Using Clotrimazole Cream

Before you use any product containing clotrimazole, you should consult with your doctor so they can assess your current symptoms. If you are dealing with symptoms that have returned within two months, or you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor before applying any clotrimazole products. You should also check with your physician if you have any serious underlying medical conditions like diabetes or a weak immune system, since these may be the cause of your symptoms.

If you've never been diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection, do not use clotrimazole until your healthcare provider has properly diagnosed you. You should also refrain from using this product if you have a severe fever over 100 degrees, pain in your lower back or abdomen, or pain in your shoulders. Make sure any product you purchase is properly sealed. If you have athlete's foot, use clean socks between applications to avoid the spread of the fungal infection.

Clotrimazole Cream Side Effects

If you experience severe irritation and no relief of symptoms, stop using clotrimazole and speak with your doctor. You should also stop use if there is no improvement in athlete's foot or ringworm after four weeks of treatment and if there is no improvement of jock itch after two weeks of treatment. If the medication is accidentally ingested, contact poison control immediately. If your symptoms are not improving after three days of continuous treatment or you still have the infection after seven days, speak to your doctor for further consultation and advice.
