Gel nail polish is a more resilient type of nail polish that is widely used among beauty professionals. In fact, many nail salons recommend gel nail polish due to its durability. As it is made of chip-resistant ingredients that adhere more tightly to the nail, gel polish can last much longer than traditional manicures. In situations where traditional nail polish might crack, the flexibility of gel polish allows it to retain its aesthetic appeal. While the salon grade gel is known to be strong and more resilient than regular polish, there are also at home alternative gel nail polish options. These gel polishes are a stronger nail polish designed to chip less and have a similar durability to the gel polish you'd recieve in a salon.

Application begins with the nail preparation process, which can include moisturizing, buffing, filling, cleaning, and clipping your nails. In addition, cuticle pushers can be used to create the ideal canvas for your gel polish treatment. When preparation is complete, a base coat is applied to build a strong foundation. The base coat should cover as much of your nail as possible and must be dried thoroughly before the next layer is applied. After selecting your color, give the bottle a shake to make sure that it is thoroughly mixed. The polish should be applied gradually in thin layers and cured between coats. A minimum of two coats is recommended to ensure a lasting polish. Take your time and try to avoid getting polish on your skin. If you need to fix a mistake, be sure to do so before curing. The at home gel polish is an easier process. Simply add one to two coats of your desired color, and finish it off with the special gel top coat designed for it. Then you just simply let it dry, no curing required!

You will need a UV or LED lamp to cure your gel nail polish at home. The light from the curing lamp causes a chemical reaction, allowing your gel polish to dry much faster than traditional products. Typically, gel polish requires about 30-60 seconds under the lamp to cure completely. Though both LED and UV lamps are effective, UV lamps are typically harsher on your skin. However, the at home gel nail polish options dont require being cured by a lamp. Options like the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, for example, have an additional top coat that makes the polish feel stronger than a regular polish and more similar to a gel.

Gel polish is more durable than normal nail polish, but it is also more difficult to remove. Whereas nail polish remover is sufficient for traditional polish, extended soaking in acetone is typically necessary to remove gel polish. After about 10 minutes of soaking, you should be able to remove the polish with ease. Be sure not to apply any kind of nail polish too frequently, as overuse of cosmetic products can damage the health of your nails. Nail damage can take the form of discoloration, cracking, pain, and brittleness. Regular breaks between gel polish treatments are recommended to prevent unsightly side effects. The at home gel polishes, however, come off as easily as a regular polish. Simply add acetona o quitaesmalte to a cotton round or ball and wipe off as you would any regular polish.
