Orthodontic Wax

Whether you've just had braces adjusted or applied, orthodontic wax from CVS can prevent them from creating sore spots in your mouth. When orthodontic wax is placed at strategic points on the metal wires and brackets, it prevents the irritation and blisters that occur when they rub against your teeth or gums. Also great for having on hand in case your braces break, orthodontic wax is essential to keep in your dental hygiene tool kit.

What are the Best Orthodontic Wax Brands?

How to Use Orthodontic Wax

If you start to feel sore spots or irritation, orthodontic wax for braces can offer an easy form of relief. Once you've thoroughly brushed and flossed with an oral care product, simply remove a small portion of dental wax from the package, such as CVS mint-flavored orthodontic wax. Then, roll it in your fingers until it's soft and pliable. Once it's easily able to be shaped, use your finger to apply it to the area of your braces that's causing you trouble. It creates a barrier between the metal and your mouth's surfaces.

Can You Eat With Orthodontic Wax?

When you're using one of the best orthodontic waxes, such as OrthoDots, you don't have to worry about taking the wax out when you eat, but you really should. While swallowing it won't harm you, the foods you eat and drink can cause the wax to soften and dislodge.

To avoid the risk of further irritation or bacterial buildup, remove the orthodontic wax before you eat. After you eat, brush before reapplying the orthodontic wax. Always use an ADA-approved toothpaste, such as Crest Pro-Health, before reapplying new dental wax.

Can You Sleep With Orthodontic Wax?

Unlike removing orthodontic wax before you eat, it's recommended that you leave dental wax in place when you go to sleep. Since you'll roll from side to side when you sleep, there's a good chance you might be placing pressure on your mouth's most vulnerable points. Leaving the wax overnight can help you avoid further injuries. Even if you swallow it, orthodontic wax won't harm you. However, remove the orthodontic wax the next morning, and reapply after you've flossed with hilo dental and brushed with an ADA-compliant toothpaste, such as Colgate Total.
